Testimonials

Janetta (Nettie) C. came to ALA in September 1993. A 34-year-old mother of three children, she began working with a tutor on basic skills. She earned her GED, enrolled in Geneva College, received her driver's license and manages to hold down a part-time job. "Once I realized the key was me and let ALA become a vital part of my life, I got the help I needed. I was finally able to turn my life around and accomplish many things I never thought possible."
Kathryn S. is a retired teacher's aide who realizes the importance of education. At the age of 74, she enrolled in one of ALA's classes to build English and computer skills. She encourages the other students by telling them to "grab every opportunity you can, appreciate the chances you receive and be the key to unlock your own potential."
Ann M. is a 21-year-old mother of two who is currently working toward her GED while holding down a part-time job. She believes that ALA will help her achieve her goal of making a better life for her children. The key for Ann is to attend college and receive the skills that will assist her in finding a good job.
LaMar L. is 38 years old, the father of three young children and a student in our New Brighton class. Due to an injury on his job, he is now on worker's comp and needs retraining for future employment. LaMar is a high school graduate, received a certificate in welding and is licensed in the state of PA for asbestos removal. With ALA, he is brushing up on his basic skills so he can further his education. He attends class three days a week and is enthusiastic and positive about his class work. He says, "I am pleased to be a part of ALA and I'm greatful for the opportunity to brush up on my skills."
