| Join the competition and
test your spelling skills against local businesses, schools, government
agencies, and human service organizations. Each competing team consists of
three adult members from your business or organization. The entry fee for a team of
three “Speller Bees” is $365.00 (A Buck a Day for ALA) and three donated
gifts for another team. The winning team will earn the prestigious traveling
trophy to display at their office until the 2009 event.
The winner of the 2007
competition, Geneva College, currently holds the traveling trophy. Since every great team needs a
cheering squad, family, friends, coworkers and customers are encouraged to
attend. Cheering squads will vie for the TEAM SPIRIT AWARD to support
their favorite team by having the most fans, the most uniquely dressed
supporters, the best fundraising efforts (50/50 drawings, etc.), or by their
exhibition of banners or pom-poms.
Other activities include awarding prizes,
gifts, and plaques for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
winners. Free audience gifts are announced throughout the
evening. ALA is a non-profit
organization and we depend on the generosity and community spirit of Beaver
County to help continue and expand ALA services.
For more than 30 years, ALA
has actively promoted a literate Beaver County by offering free adult education
in reading, writing, math, GED preparation, distance learning, English for
Speakers of Other Languages, and family literacy. Last year, volunteer tutors
and ALA instructors served over 800 adults at libraries and learning centers
located throughout Beaver County.
Please consider supporting ALA
at the Queen, Bumble, Honey, or Worker Bee level. We are in need of
teams, cash donations, and gifts in-kind to be awarded as door prizes and team
incentives, and additionally for an audience of more than 300 people.
Sponsors will be permitted to hang company banners at the Bee event, along with
other incentives related to sponsorship level.
Our sponsors are a key component
in making the Bee a great success. Adult literacy is an economic development issue! |
