ALA Programs

Adult Literacy Action offers instruction, free of charge, to Beaver County Adults needing refinement or development of basic skills, ALA education programs include:

Family Literacy

Family Literacy helps the family as a whole by providing services for learning, modeling, and networking with other parents.

Included in Family Literacy classes are:

Parents as Learners who acquire adult basic education and GED preparation skills
Parents as Learners who act as role models of life-long learning for the families
Parents as Their Child's First Teachers who gain parenting skills as well as information on child development and early literacy skills.
Parents as Teachers and Children as Learners who participate in activities together to enhance literacy skills and enjoy each other's company.

Adult Basic Education

Free adult basic education classes taught by certified teachers are available at convenient times and locations throughout Beaver County.

Adult Services Include:

GED preparation
Education skills assessment
Computer-assisted learning
Math, reading and writing brush-up
Individualized Instruction

Workforce Education

Education services are customized to meet specific workforce needs. Free services are available to local employers.

Customized classes consist of:

Workforce math
Technical reading and writing
Job skills and enrichment

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL programs help foreign-born adults improve their skills in reading, writing, conversational English, and self-sufficiency in an innovative and fun way by using multi-media classrooms.

ESOL education classes consist of:

Communication skills
Computer-assisted learning
Citizenship preparation
Vocabulary development
Daily living skills, including: banking, speaking with doctors, transportation, community involvement, shopping and much more.
